March Client of the Month... Marlene Guerrero!
"It is truly an honor to be recognized as The Bar’s client of the month for March. It is even more special because my amazing twin boys will be 10 years old this month! They definitely mean the world to me.
I was born in Mexico and I have lived in Tahoe for 27 years. I am a bilingual instructional assistant at Bijou Community School and a local business owner. I have been married for 21 years to my wonderful husband.
I enjoy traveling to my native country’s beaches and bike riding with my boys during the summer.
I have always wanted to do something for myself, mentally and physically, but it was hard to find the time during the day with my busy schedule. And well… it was my best friend Shaina who introduced me to The Bar. I have been attending the studio regularly since June. I was determined to get up earlier to attend the morning classes and it has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I have become much stronger and my posture has significantly improved.
What I love about The Bar? The dedicated instructors, the variety of classes and the awesome group of peers that I have met along the way."

Hello March. Happy National Nutrition Month!
This year our national focus is “Go Further with Food,” emphasizing the reduction of food waste. Did you know that each year Americans waste over 160 billion pounds of food, amounting to 40 percent of all food produced in the United States?! What can you do to help prevent food waste?
Plan meals based on foods you already have.
Look in your refrigerator, freezer, and pantry to determine foods that need be used within the next week.
Search for recipes that use these food items/ingredients. I love the Epicurious app ingredient search!
Buy only the amount of food that you can eat/freeze within the next few days.
Keep foods that spoil quickly within sight.
Store produce properly. The infographic at the following link is a great resource:https://www.eatright.org/homefoodsafety/multimedia/infographics/how-to-keep-produce-fresh-longer-infographic
Become knowledgeable about what food product dates really mean.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA):
A "Best if Used By/Before" indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
A "Sell-By" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale for inventory management. It is not a safety date.
A "Use-By" date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality. It is not a safety date except for when used on infant formula as described below.
With an exception of infant formula, if the date passes during home storage, a product should still be safe to eat if handled properly until the time spoilage is evident. Spoiled foods will develop an off odor, flavor, or texture due to naturally occurring spoilage bacteria. If a food has developed such spoilage characteristics, it should not be eaten.
Always practice good food safety!
Don’t risk eating or drinking anything that you suspect has spoiled.
Eat or freeze leftovers within 3-4 days of preparation.
Get Creative with Leftovers.
Recreate meals by transforming ingredients into soups, salads, tacos, smoothies, or sandwiches.
Let’s Go Further with Food together! Have a beautiful month!
